Looking for the best pressure washer of 2026? Four Karcher K4 and K5 models compared on power, accessories and current price.

The best pressure washer of 2026 is the Karcher K5 Comfort Premium Compleet: a powerful machine for bigger jobs (car, façade, driveway) that comes with every accessory you need. If you would rather have a more compact all-rounder, the Karcher K4 Comfort Premium is ideal for everyday jobs around the house and garden; the Karcher K5 Comfort Premium Connect Car & Home sits in between. In this buying guide we compare four Karcher models on power, usability and current price — with figures refreshed daily from our feed.

Karcher holds by far the largest share of the consumer pressure washer market in the Netherlands, and the K series is its consumer line. The two key variables when choosing are the K class (K2 is entry-level, K4 mid-range, K5 extended, K7 professional) and the equipment level (Car & Home = car and home accessories, Compleet = the full bundle, Power Control = a display on the trigger gun).

Karcher K5 Comfort Premium Compleet — best pressure washer of 2026 (€480-€650)

The Karcher K5 Comfort Premium Compleet is the most complete pressure washer in this list. The K5 class delivers higher pressure and water flow than the K4 series, so heavier jobs such as façade cleaning, driveway stains and green algae on patio tiles get done noticeably faster. The "Compleet" (complete) edition means extra accessories come included as standard that you would otherwise have to buy separately.

For homes with a larger driveway, a garden and several exterior walls, this is the safest investment: buying right the first time saves you a second purchase later when the heavier jobs come along.

Who it's for: larger homes, frequent DIYers and anyone who also wants to use their pressure washer for patio renovation and façade cleaning.

Karcher K5 Comfort Premium Connect Car & Home — best for car and home (€355-€480)

The K5 Comfort Premium Connect Car & Home delivers the same K5 power as our top pick, but focuses on the two most common use cases: washing the car and ordinary jobs around the house. The Car & Home bundle includes a car brush and home accessories, so you can get started straight away without buying anything extra.

The difference compared with "Compleet" mainly comes down to the size of the accessory bundle — for most households, Connect Car & Home is more than enough, and it saves you up to 100 euros.

Who it's for: anyone who washes their car weekly and tackles a driveway or patio every now and then.

Karcher K4 Power Control Flex Car & Home — best K4 with a display (€220-€300)

The K4 series is the best-selling Karcher class in the Netherlands: powerful enough for 90% of jobs around the home, and considerably lighter and cheaper than a K5. The "Power Control" system puts an LCD display on the trigger gun itself — it shows you the recommended pressure for the material you're cleaning (car, wood, stone) and lets you adjust it instantly.

The Flex variant has a flexible hose that snakes around obstacles far more easily — a small detail that makes a big difference during longer jobs.

Who it's for: anyone who wants a mid-range machine with smart material settings and better ergonomics.

Karcher K4 Comfort Premium — best K4 without a display (€200-€280)

The Karcher K4 Comfort Premium is the classic version: no LCD on the trigger gun, but the same K4 motor and pressure as the Power Control variant. If you won't miss a display (most people set the pressure once and leave it anyway), this is the cheapest route to K4 performance.

The "Premium" designation means a longer warranty and a better finish than the entry-level model; beyond that, the build is functionally identical.

Who it's for: the typical garden and driveway owner who uses the machine a few times a year.

Which Karcher class suits my situation?

As a rule of thumb:

  • K2 — a flat with one parking space and a 20 m² garden. Entry-level jobs only.
  • K3 — a small terraced house with a short driveway and a small patio. Occasional car washing.
  • K4 — an average family home with a garden, a patio and 1-2 cars. The best-selling class.
  • K5 — a detached or semi-detached house with a large driveway, patio, façade and garden.
  • K7 and up — large properties or light professional use.

If you really can't decide: a K4 is exactly right for 90% of Dutch homes. Only choose a K5 if you'll put it to work on heavier jobs several times a year — otherwise you'll almost never use the extra power.

Comfort, Premium, Compleet: what do those suffixes mean?

  • Basic / entry-level — shortest warranty, basic accessories.
  • Comfort — better ergonomics, a longer hose, usually a somewhat longer warranty.
  • Premium — Comfort with more extensive hose equipment and a quick-change adapter, generally better materials.
  • Compleet — Premium plus an extensive accessory bundle you would otherwise buy separately.

How much does a pressure washer cost to run?

A K4 draws around 1.8 kW while running, a K5 around 2.1 kW. At a rate of €0.40/kWh and a 30-minute job, that works out at roughly €0.40 of electricity per session. Water on top (Karcher machines use around 8 litres per minute) is a negligible cost in the Netherlands.

Frequently asked questions about pressure washers

Can I use a pressure washer on my car without damaging the paintwork?

Yes, as long as you keep your distance (30-40 cm) and use the right nozzle (a 25° or fan nozzle — never the 0° pencil jet on paintwork). Every model in this list comes with a car-safe nozzle, and the Power Control models have a dedicated car setting.

How long does a Karcher K4 or K5 last?

With normal household use (5-15 times a year), the K4/K5 Premium models typically last 8-12 years. The pump is the part that eventually wears; a thorough flush and dry storage after winter extends its lifespan considerably.

Do I need to drain my pressure washer in winter?

Yes. Water freezing inside the pump causes cracks that cannot be repaired. After the last job of the season, run the machine on air only (or with Karcher's antifreeze fluid) to dry out the lines, and store it somewhere frost-free.

What is the difference between the K4 and K5 in practice?

The K5 delivers roughly 25% more pressure (145 bar vs 130 bar) and 15% more water flow. In practice you notice it on stubborn dirt (green algae, old layers of paint): a K5 removes it in a single pass where a K4 needs two or three.

Do I need a garden hose or a water tank?

Every Karcher model in this list runs off an ordinary garden hose connected to the tap. There are also variants that can draw from a tank (for caravans or remote gardens without a tap), but that requires a separate suction hose kit — budget an extra 30-50 euros and check your model's suction height.

Can I use chemical detergents?

Yes, all K4 and K5 models have a reservoir for Karcher detergent. Only use Karcher's own detergents or alternatives designed for the purpose; household cleaning products attack the pump. For graffiti or algae on a patio, a dedicated patio cleaner (T-Racer) is more effective than detergent through the nozzle.
