Along the way the two former enemies must put aside their differences and band together to deal with a threatening Mexican general. In NORTH TO ALASKA a tough Alaskan gold digger (John Wayne) agrees to pick up his partner's (Stewart Granger) fiancée, but when he finds her married to another man he brings back a beautiful substitute instead. With both men vying for her favour, trouble inevitably breaks out between the best friends, exacerbated by a shifty con-man (Ernie Kovacs) hoping to steal the men's gold claim.
