Archetype Arcadia is a dark, science fiction visual novel set in a meteorological world where a mysterious disease known as "Original Syndrome" has wiped out most of humanity. The story revolves around Rust and his sister, who wander through empty lands desperately searching for other people. All other humans are believed to have fallen victim to the disease, which causes hallucinations, paranoid disorders, and uncontrollable self-destructive impulses in the infected. The only solution to control these symptoms is engaging in a virtual game called Archetype Arcadia.
Rust does not suffer from the disease, but when his afflicted sister mysteriously falls and remains unresponsive, he must enter the iconic virtual game and navigate this unseen world to find a solution for his sister. Inside the game, there is an entirely new world filled with people and monsters. A world where using a gaming device allows players to harness powerful memories and corresponding characters to battle each other. While this virtual existence is supposed to delay the disease, it also carries severe consequences.
As Rust fights in this strange world for a cure, he encounters various people with unexpected identities and origins, forms unbreakable friendships, and certainly some enemies along the way.
