K2. Touching the Sky
The children of acclaimed alpinists - who died on K2, in Karakorum Mountains - undertake an expedition to answer universal question: what is the price of passion. In the summer of 1986, several dozen alpinists from all over the world met to climb K2, second highest mountain on the planet. Very soon the season transforms into a series of tragic events called “black summer”, leaving 13 climbers dead.
Almost 30 years later, Eliza Kubarska, the director of the film, together with an international group of grown-up children of acclaimed climbers, sets out on an expedition to reach K2 base camp, symbolic burial place for those who lost their lives on the mountain. Hania Piotrowska, Łukasz Wolf, Lindsey and Chris Tullis will challenge themselves to face the past and to understand the force that once seduced their parents and eventually killed them. On the other hand, Eliza, being a woman and an experienced alpinist, asks herself questions: Is my passion worth the risk? Should I have a child?
The film is an emotional journey set against breathtaking vistas of Karakorum Mountains. It is a multilayered psychological portrait of people who are coping to understand the choices of their parents or their own passion. The documentary features intimate archival footage from the 80's.
A Documentary FIlm
Portrait of a father, whose children live their own lives far away from him.
Casa Blanca
Casa Blanca is a small fishing village on the Gulf of Havana. Nelsa (76) and her son Vladimir (37), who has Down syndrome, share a tiny room in an overcrowded multi-family building. Vladimir is the only caretaker for ailing Nelsa, and Nelsa is the only person to watch over Vladimir, who easily gets into trouble. Their relationship is filled with conflicts: she is trying to control her son, while he prefers to help fishermen at work, have fun and drink rum with them, rather than spend time with his mother.
Every day Nelsa wanders the streets of Casa Blanca in search of her only child not returning home early.
One day, she falls ill.
End of the World
THE END OF THE WORLD is an intimate, creative and very immensely visual documentary where couple of stories weave into one narrative during in one night. In a big city, many people are joined in one need - troubled by loneliness, they want to talk to someone. Some of them call an emergency number 112, even if it’s not really necessary, others call the radio. This time the subject of the broadcast is the end of the world predicted by the Mayan calendar. The speaker asks the listeners what it actually means to each one of them. They talk about things that are tragic and painful, and sometimes small and funny. Their need to be heard, to communicate, to share their experience with someone else is evident and moving. The radio is a motif linking this night’s events - we hear it in the ambulance, in a city’s monitoring centre, where we observe the night life of the city presented on dozens of screens. The radio binds the elements of the film together in terms of structure and meaning: it is the source of the most important questions.
Paradise on Earth
The film is an intimate record of a two-year friendship between Cecylia Malik, the film director and an artist from Krakow, and a homeless couple. The relationship started when Artur and Iwona invited the director to their wedding after which they continued to exchange experiences. The couple in love reveals a different world to the author, the city’s image she has not known so far, while the director invites the protagonists to participate in one of her artistic projects.
Object
Object is a creative and abstract image of a underwater search. The action takes place in the dimensions of two worlds – ice desert and underwater. The story is told from the point of view of the rescue team, of the diver entering the underwater all covered by ice, and of the ordinary people awaiting on the shore.
Plus Minus or a Fly's Trips to the East
After 25 years of silence as an artist, Bogdan Dziworski makes a comeback with an extremely personal picture which is a journal of his journey to Georgia. Plus Minus or a Fly’s Trips to the East is a phantasmagorical story about the personality cult of Josef Stalin, a figure of special importance in the artist’s childhood. ‘A long time has passed since I decided to visit the leader’s homeland,’ comments the character off-screen.
