The second album from the Amsterdam-based group Orquesta del Tiempo Perdido, aka Jeroen Kimman's large scale project (on this recording he has 21 co-conspirators) featuring his own compositions. Kimman may not be as well known in the States but he has made a varied and impressive career in Amsterdam as a composer, hired gun guitarist and doing about anything you could imagine. Orquesta del Tiempo Perdido features a who's who of the Amsterdam-scene (and beyond): Leo Svirsky, Jasper Stadhouders, Anna voor de Wind, Tristan Renfrow, Mark Morse, Onno Govaert, John Dikeman, Koen Nutters and on and on. The music on traantjes is about as varied and difficult to fully describe as Kimman himself, but the album lands as a truly modern take on Exotica (not the '90s version either or just cheeky throwback references) that borrows from the worlds of soundtrack music, improvisation/jazz, folk music and so much more. A kaleidoscopic work that somehow never sacrifices melody amidst the shifting rhythms and complex arrangements.
