It connects devices such as printers, computers, gateways, POS systems etc. The adapter thus provide a simple solution to transfer the serial data e.g. of RS-232/422/485 interfaces with a Cat.5 cable and within an existing cable infrastructure.
Transmission characteristics for the serial adapter
A standard cable, e.g. category 5 (Cat.5) has much better transmission characteristics than a standard RS-232 cable. It enables higher data rates to be transmitted and longer distances to be bridged without additional signal amplification.
